Churros

We once visited the German Christmas market in Cologne a few years ago, a fabulous experience, very festive with a strong aroma of mulled wine floating around the market. In Spain, or at least Andalucia the aroma is chocolate, welcome to the land of "Churros"

So what are churros? Imagine a pancake in the shape of a stick, churros are basicly batter or pancake mix deep fried. Normally you will be served them in a wrap of paper and 6 sticks is usually regarded as a serving for one.

How to eat them.... This is the good bit! In winter time especially churros are eaten with hot chocolate. The chocolate is called "Chocolate a la Taza" and is quite sweet and very thick, if your churro stands upright in the chocolate and gently falls to the side of the glass it is the right consistency.

Make your own churros

So next time you are visiting Spain have a peak in the markets - if there is someone whisking away in a catering van stop by and observe the art of making churros, or simply follow the wonderful aroma of hot chocolate...

Those looks like one of our chinese dish as well. But we usually buy it at the market and eat it by itself. And we have different variety where there will make it into round shape and put some red bean paste or some kind of sweet rice. It's really nice but very sinful. Sometimes we will cut it into small pieces and put it on top of our porridge. Yummy! Dipping it into chocolate is definitely something new for me. Hehe...

Sheffy: Churros are great on a cold morning (or any morning) doesn't do much for the waistline though!

Cutie: Sinful indeed! Your versions sound really interesting, might try it on porridge next time :)
