Spanish Olive Oil

Spanish Extra Virgin Olive oil, where would we be without it? There are some excellent olive oils produced in Spain - many from co-operatives. In 2006 we were lucky enough to be given a guided tour of a local olive oil press, a very impressive operation churning out some of the highest grade organic extra virgin olive oil in the Granada region.

The "Orce Serrano Hams" olive oil page is undergoing a revamp and in response to customer feedback we have altered the oil descriptions into bullet points detailing the characteristics of each oil.

Now then, we had some fun testing our oils (not all in the same day of course!) Spanish tostada was a hot favourite last week! We also gained a lot of knowledge during the process. Olive oil is graded similarly to wines with some heavenly words describing aroma, taste, colour etc.

A few words to describe olive oil...

* Style: aggressive, balanced, bitter, delicate, fresh, spicy, sweet
* Aromas: grassy, fruity, nutty, hay, almond, rustic, verdant.
* Tastes: fresh, fruity, peppery, sweet, strong.

Next up: Well, its Halloween....

Shionge: Great stuff! Olive oil should be up there with the salt and pepper on every table, very healthy and a superb flavour to many dishes.

We use if quite a lot but maybe not enough.Your descriptive words make these oils sound very appealing.

Sheffy: Thank you, we think a quality oil should be simplified into description - no nonsense as the olive oil will speak for itself.
